REVIEW: “2018 Salt Lake Design Week!”

The 2018 Salt Lake Design Week was incredible! In the past, I haven’t attended much outside of the keynote, which is always incredible within itself!

Below are the reviews of the events I attended an what I took away from them! Enjoy!

Chip Kidd – Book Jackets I Have Known and Loved
Wednesday, October 3 | Adobe – Lehi, Utah | 6:00pm-9:00pm

Chip Kidd is a legend in the design world as the designer behind the Jurassic Park book cover which evolved into the logo used for the films and products! Chip’s talk at this event was basically a love letter to his husband who he lost earlier this year. He crafted the story of his career and his life beautifully. Incredibly touching. He sold a handful of his own books and was autographing them following the event. I brought my son’s Jurassic Park lunch box with he gracefully autographed for him. Thank you, Chip!

Shop Talk: Super Team Deluxe
Thursday, October 4 | Underbelly | 7:00pm-10:00pm

Super Team Deluxe has only been in Salt Lake a short time (after a relocation from Orlando, Florida), in that short time they have made an impact  with there fun pins, patches and stickers! Their talk focused on creating a community focusing on them as opposed the  number game of the followers and likes!

Beer + Design
Tuesday, October 2 | Uinta Brewing Co. | 6:00pm-9:00pm

Micro-breweries are all the rage and Uinta Brewing Co. is a big player in Utah and beyond. This event was great because we got FREE BEER and a peak behind the scenes of the industry. There details shared about the branding updated, the development of the look of a new line of flavors and the creation of the Lagoon Biergarten (debuting at Lagoon Park next March)!. Coel Design is the partner working on these projects. Can wait to see the beer garden!

For the keynote speaker of Salt Lake Design Week @sldesignweek, they were able to bring in the incredible book cover designer Chip Kidd @chip_kidd, best know for creating the logo for Jurassic Park! Which was later used in the marketing of all the films! Chip used his presentation as a beautiful farewell and love letter to his husband, who he lost earlier this year! #adobe #alexross #book #bookcover #bookdesign #chipkidd #death #design #jurassicpark #loss #love #marvel #marvelocity #saltlake #saltlakecity #saltlakedesignweek #slc #utah

We had the great privilege to attend Chip Kidd’s lecture hosted by @adobe and @aigaslc earlier this month. His narrative was moving and inspiring and left us all wanting to be better designers and better human beings.
